His name was Dr. Philip Davenport of the Connecticut Davenports. He was an acclaimed surgeon...and a highly sought after ghost hunter.
It was the early 1900's and Dr. Davenport was often called upon to investigate occurrences of what can only be described as "supernatural" phenomena. Upon entering a business or residence he would ask where the phenomena has most recently occurred, and set up "shop" in that particular area. The detection of sudden change in temperature was well documented as phenomena long associated with a ghostly presence. For this he brought along a small box specially made for him containing 3 simple thermometers attached to small stands. He would place them around the area, and one near him or the resident for continuous observation. It was not at all unusual in a true case of supernatural activity to see results. Often there would be a sleight visible change in temperature, sometimes the red alcohol within the glass tubes would register quick substantial drops in the room temperature, a sure sign of a spirit hovering near by... A wonderfully aged box with 3 temperature gauge stands. Two stands are normal, but one stand is rather high tech. Start by placing the "special" unit on a table being used for your presentation that spectators may be near or sitting at. Place the two other thermometers around the room. At anytime during your presentation, when you want, select a participant to be the observer of the thermometer, and place the special unit in front of them. You have now deviously and secretly activated the computer chip by placing a finger or thumb across the two screws as you casually pick up the unit, completing the "on" connection in that brief moment. Depending on the length of delay you have requested for your unit, the temperature will start to dramatically fall on the thermometer 7 to 10 degrees and within a minute it will slowly start to return to normal room temperature. All three Thermometers are real and they are not gaffed, they will tell actual temperature. This process can be repeated as many times as you like. The red alcohol can clearly be seen against the chart to be going down. A perfect convincer for any seance or ghost hunting experience. We program in the delay to be custom chosen by you, anywhere from 2 minutes 30 seconds all the way to 10 minutes from activation to Temp drop, the choice is yours, any length of time can be requested. My Chiller has arrived. When Rick first told me about this a few months ago I was not moved by it. It just didn’t seem to be something I would have used. When he started selling the units individually I decided to get one but more for an unusual decorative piece. I still didn’t appreciate this.
I dug deep and found an old “little something” I had that sends a cold breeze into a room and gave Chiller its first run last night. Good news, bad news the old “little something” didn’t work but boy Chiller did. The power of suggestion alone had some guests swearing they “felt” the spirit as it moved in the room and the others were mad that they hadn’t felt the presence as they watched the temp in the room drop. Tis the nature of a ghost! I was across the room and had never touched it. I instructed one of the guests to remove it from the shelf and place it on the table. When the temp began to drop it was a couple of guests that brought it to the attention of the others. This does not work by the usual method. R.C.P |
